My little Walter

Bitter sweet day

Today May 5th marks three years since Pedrito one of the four stray dogs I fostered disappeared.  Maybe "foster" is not the correct term since he came to mom's house on his own and no one ever showed any interest in adopting him.

I remember the last time I saw him like it was yesterday.  It was a Friday afternoon and he was pressuring me to feed him, he ate and off he went into the sunset.  I recall telling my mother that Pedrito had a better social life than I did...he probably had a date and was going to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with her.

I miss you my little one...:-(

Thank you for visiting Walter's World.

  1. That's the problem with letting pets roam free. You don't own them but they own your heart.

    1. When the four stray dogs showed up they were adult dogs. While I had to tie two of them up to keep from killing each other once one of them died I untied Pedrito because he was a free spirit and it was unfair for me to try to change him.

While it was sad he never came back at least he was free at last.

  2. Just an observation - I dont believe I have read where you have invested in any of your pets care with a vet visit. - fostering a pet requires a specific commitment to care and protecting the pet and to insure their health, safety and well being.
Elvis requires a bath, vet visit and some serious attention to his skin conditions as hes probably in serious discomfort and probably pain - Pedrito would possibly be a current loyal companion with a vet visit and a neutering - as to the idiosyncrasies and uncommon behavior of the other two cats that hang out for food, maybe they have some ongoing health issues? - As I suggested, just an observation and I am in no way challenging your intent or love for these animals.

    1. Mr. Souze - thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. However, I feel that if you had read this blog as well as my other blog Terlingua Dreams you would see all the times I have taken both the stray dogs as well as three of my current cats to the vet in Ciudad Acuña, Mexico where they were given their annual shots and were fixed.

Pedrito the dog pictured on this post left three years ago and I have not seen him since. The other two dogs Tammie and Oscar went on their way as well also three years ago.

Tammie and Oscar were attacked by a porcupine and while the sedation pills the vet gave me did not work on Tammie they did on Oscar who had to have surgery to have the porcupine quills removed and I had him fixed at the same time. I do not have the time to bring you the links from my other blog but they are there for anyone to find.

Elvis showed up one day and never left. As I told you on a prior comment I have no desire to trap him and take him to a vet.

If I were to take someone it would be Katie who is also not my cat. She is a stray but is afraid of me for some reason. I would love to have her fixed.

I used the term "foster" loosely as I consider watering and feeding them being all I can do for them.

I have spent a lot of money on Paquito (the white cat) as he had to have surgery to remove an eye that he injured when he was still little. His brother Nico is also fixed and has all his shots as well as their mother Blanca.

Even if I had the desire to take Elvis and/or Katie to the vet the border with Mexico is currently closed. There is no way I can afford to take them to an American veterinary.
