Sonny and I finally bonded!

Got a late start to my morning walk thanks to Paquito.  He was laying by the front door and would not let me go by. When I finally did he followed me to the gate.  I am tired of having to bring him back as he follows me down the street so decided to feed him on top of the old washing machine in the back of the house.

He was too busy eating so I took the opportunity to head on down to the walking trail. By now it was 7:45 a.m. and rather warm but pressed on.  My new friend did not show up until I had walked around a couple of times.  I stopped to talk to him and he actually came close but not too close.  I could tell that his right eye had in the past had an injury but that is common with cats in this desert area where prickly plants abound.

The next go around I again stopped but for some reason, he took off...I never saw him again...oh these crazy cats!

A couple of hours later as I was heading into town I was at the stop sign between our street and the main street into the sub-division.  The walking trail is to the right and I could not believe I saw him actually walking on the trail and heading perhaps to the mechanic shop that is between the church and an empty lot.  That is when I wished I was like others who seem to have their cellular phone surgically attached to their hand...No, actually, I do not wish that even if I did miss a photo opportunity.

This afternoon I was so surprised when Sonny the little cat that came and made himself at home over a year ago but that will not let me touch him actually rubbed himself against one of my legs.  I could not believe it, he did it all on his own.  I just played it cool but I was so happy!

Made a new friend

On my morning walks, I usually have the walking trail all to myself, something I like.  This week though I made a new friend

From afar I thought it was a little dog on Monday I did not have my cellphone with me to take a picture. It would not have served me any purpose as he took off into the woods in a hurry.  That same day on one of my laps something dashed out from the same place and took off so fast I was barely able to make out that it was a whitetail bunny.

Yesterday this cat no longer ran away from me.  I stopped and talked to him and told him what pretty eyes he had (deep blue).  I do not know if he is somebody's pet or is a stray as he is heavier than my boys and looks to be in good health.

Today I thought I would not see him but he showed up later though I was not sure if it was him or not as from this distance all I could see was a beige or white animal. As I got closer I could tell it was him...yes, today I was able to establish he was, in fact, a boy.

He laid down in the same place and watched as I went around and around and eventually leave. When I left the trail I looked back and he was still there.

When I got home I did not notice that Paquito was sitting on the fence partially hidden by the pomegranate tree branches watching me and as I opened the gate jumped down at my feet and start whining he wanted to be fed...darn cat scared me to death.

The boys have a new spot

It has been a while since I have had a chance to update my Boy's blog.  They are all doing well even Katie and her kittens.

I have not seen momma cat Blanca in a while but I do not worry about her as she is street-savvy and knows how to survive in a rough environment.

With these very hot temperatures, Paquito finally took up space where we have a non-working bathroom that doubles as a shed/storage room and where I have had encounters with fast-moving "brown worms".

In winter the boys would find shelter and I had Cuchas (beds) for them.  Unfortunately, Paquito is not into sharing so he was the only one that could sleep on the dog bed I bought for the three of them.

Now in summer, I was so glad that the boys once again took shelter there.  The floor is made of tile which makes it feel cooler and Paquito, Nico, and Sonny can escape there from the heat.

Was going to upload some pictures but I am having a hard time doing that this evening :-(

Snake Day?

It has been hot and humid and I limit my outside time to the morning and late afternoon. I was hanging clothes on the clothesline when I saw Paquito swatting something and jumping up in the air.  Upon further inspection, this is what I found...

I was just hoping this was a garden snake. The snake was alive and would curl up, then Paquito would hurl it up in the air.  I screamed fearing he would send it my way so quickly retreated to the safety of the house.

This is why I love my boys so much...they keep me safe from the creatures I fear!

Late this afternoon I found this dead snake that looks like a small version of another the boys killed a couple of months back but this one did not show any signs of having been attacked...at least it was DEAD.

My number one motto is...a good snake...is a dead one :-)

Katie came back only to leave again

No Katie to nurse Precious so I got a little plate and put some food for him/her to eat.  Unfortunately, I had to set it on the ground and ants got in it...but he/she ate it anyway.

Thursday - August 1st I made my last round outside at 8:10 p.m. and Katie and her kittens were back.

Saturday - August 3rd I woke up to the cats running on the roof and making all kinds of raucous. Then I heard a catfight with one cat meowing loudly (probably Paquito) and a small meow from the other.  This was in the front yard but by the time I went outside, there was no cats only the scent of a skunk.

By the time the sun came up, there was no Katie and no kittens around.  The only cat I saw that afternoon was Pappa Cat eating.  I really hope Paquito did not harm them.  He is so territorial I am surprised he had not run them off sooner.

It is Monday - August 5th and they have not been back.  I hope the neighbor three lots down that I think bought Blanca her flea collar will give them water.  It has been so hot lately in the three digits with equally high heat indexes.

I think they are OK with food as she is still nursing them and with the neighbors not securing their horse, chicken, and dog food supply there is an abundance of mice.  The boys are mousers I just wish they would eat them at the neighbors and NOT by the front door.

There are also many birds...mostly crows and pigeons...who make a mess and that I do not mind if the boys hunt them.
