I was just hoping this was a garden snake. The snake was alive and would curl up, then Paquito would hurl it up in the air. I screamed fearing he would send it my way so quickly retreated to the safety of the house.
This is why I love my boys so much...they keep me safe from the creatures I fear!
Late this afternoon I found this dead snake that looks like a small version of another the boys killed a couple of months back but this one did not show any signs of having been attacked...at least it was DEAD.
The cats doing their job!
ReplyDeleteThey sure are and I love them for it.
DeleteMsBelinda, I found your blogs from reading The Field Lab. I too love cats but can't have them because my husband is highly allergic to them. I just wanted to warn you that if you continue to feed the strays you will always have them around. Which brings me to the reason I felt I should comment... In the state of Texas if you take care of stray animals ( feed & water ) they state considers them legally yours. Which means you are also responsible for their vet care. And also means that if one were to destroy property or injure someone then THAT also becomes your responsibility. I know the feeding and vet care can add up money wise, not to mention all the poop and "presents" they bring. The only way to keep strays from coming around is do not feed and water them. They will eventually find somewhere else to go. I'd just hate to see someone trying to do a good deed become overwhelmed or worse, in a lawsuit because they were caring for a stray who harmed another person or someone's pet.
ReplyDeleteWishing you the bedt,
Lisa
Hi Lisa, you do not mention how long you have been reading my blogs. I started this particular blog named after a sweet horse that belonged to my mother's neighbor who had no business owning any kind of domesticated animal in 2013.
DeleteMy main blog Terlingua Dreams was started in 2011 where Walter was also referenced frequently.
The main reason for starting Walter's World was to document the neglect and abuse this poor horse had to endure. We live in Val Verde County, Texas where the local authorities turn a blind eye to what is going on as far as pets with legal owners much less strays and abandoned animals are concerned.
I called the authorities and even went in person to report the abuse to the Val Verde Sheriff's Department. Only one officer launched an investigation and made Walter's owner put a shade structure in the corral. Unfortunately, that officer took a leave of absence and never returned. The other officers pretty much told me that they were too busy to deal with it.
The main problem is that Val Verde County does not have an Animal Control Shelter and the City of Del Rio, as well as the few animal rescue groups, refuse to take in any animals from the county.
When I had the stray dogs I had to restrain two of them because I feared they might attack someone and that I could be sued. Tammie the only female dog would not allow me near her or I would have had her fixed as she was constantly pregnant and the whole street felt sorry for her and fed her.
I was made aware of the Texas law of not feeding or watering strays when I lived in Houston and saw a news report of a lady being fined for doing so.
Blanca the mother to Paquito, Nico, and Rudy (who mysteriously disappeared) was the first I had fixed followed by Nico and Paquito. I am registered as the legal owner and I also had to have them get their shots and license.
Paquito's vet bills have cost me an arm and a leg even when I take them to Mexico for treatment. I would not hesitate to take Sonny and Katie to be fixed but they will not let me get near them.
I can not in good conscience, not water or feed them. They would not be capable of attacking an individual or another pet when they are such scary cats. Only Paquito is the wild one and I am already responsible for him.
Thank you for commenting and reading Walter's World.
