Paquito - Part II

While some of my friends read my main blog sporadically very few read this one. That is why I was surprised when one of my friends called to inquire about Paquito and if I ever found him since I had not mentioned his disappearance the last time we spoke.

Actually, after missing all day Sunday he showed up Monday morning...well at least his loud meows became audible as I was walking to the garage/carport that is in the next lot. His high pitch meows were coming from the roof but I could not see him. I called out to him but it seems he was trapped in an area that joins the kitchen to the main house (the kitchen was a later addition).

I was running late as I had a doctor's appointment and there is no way I was going to be able to get on a ladder and climb up on the roof to get him down. The other cats were soon up on the roof as well...I suppose for moral support?

If you are new to this blog you may not know that Paquito had to have one of his eyes removed when he was a kitten his one good eye has a lot of secretions that have to be removed several times a day along with getting daily eye drops. My best guess is that since he went missing his secretions had shut his eye and he could not see where he was or how to get out of there. I was just glad that he was back and he was alive.

When I came back out he had managed to come out of where he was trapped possibly by the sound of the other cats. I grabbed my step stool and called out to him to come to the lower portion of the roof and he followed my voice commands because I could see his eye was shut as I managed to grab him and bring him down.

Took him inside and washed his eye, I also grabbed several baby wipes to clean his coat as he was filthy!  I fed him but to my surprise, he barely ate something very rare for my fat boy!  I then looked down at my sweater and had to change it as well. Barely made my doctor's appointment on time but at least my Paquito is back home :-)

Paquito is missing

We have been having cold temperatures and strong winds in our area so I have been leaving the door to the mudroom slightly ajar so Paquito and Nico can sleep there and come and go whenever they want.

Last night at 9:36 p.m. I went to check on them but only Paquito was fast asleep in his bed. Since I am an insomniac I get up frequently and check on things, one of them is to check on him since Nico has probably only slept there once or twice.

I made another round at 4:25 a.m. was surprised that he was not there but figured he had a nature call and would come back.  That was not the case so at 8:40 a.m. I bundled up and started looking for him. Noticed that Mr. Joe had fired up his grill so early in the morning. I called out for Paquito and walked around the yard but he was nowhere to be found.

Paquito is not like the other cats that disappear for days for one he eats a lot and likes to be served on time or he will start meowing loudly either by my window, the kitchen door, or even the front door.  By 3:15 p.m. I bundled up got my folding step stool so I could look over the fence and went about trying to find him.

I knew my lot was infested with mesquite trees but I did not realize it had so many cactus plants. While it looks intimidating the cats go to my lot all the time and are familiar with it. I called out to him but no response. I then went to the southern part of the property close to Walter's former stable but did not find him there either.

My last round was before sunset. I sure hope he is alive and comes home soon. 😭

November 2020 Cat Update

I can not believe I have not made a post in a month. Katie has not been back and I am very sorry for that because I truly cared about her and enjoyed her presence. Much like Blanca who is Paquito and Nico's mother it really did not matter if she stayed or left though she was much easier to deal with than Blanca. I just wanted her fixed so neither I nor the neighborhood would be saddled with even more stray cats.

I have made great strides with Katie's now full-grown cats. While at first, they would cringe at my touch they now do not mind it. I have Paquito to thank for that. Seems that for better or for worse they have adopted his ways of dealing with me...which is to meow loudly until I cave in and feed them no matter if they have previously been fed or not!

In order for me to feed them, I forced them to put up with me petting them. While they did not like it at first they learned to associate petting with being fed. I will need this when the border between México and the USA finally opens so I can put them in the cat crate and take them to the vet in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, México.

I must say they have me well trained!  Please, I do not want any comments telling me what a bad human owner I am for overfeeding them...that is why I NEVER had a family of my own...it is too difficult to deal with cats much less humans!

It has been cold for four days in a row...depending on where you are reading this from...here in Del Rio, Texas anything in the '30s and '40s is considered COLD.

Paquito has been sleeping in the mudroom with the door slightly ajar so he can come and go for the past four nights. Nico only slept there for one night.

As many of you know who are long time readers of my other blog...I suffer from insomnia...cats do not know this malady. So why don't scientists study them?  I would love to sleep for hours like my cats do 😢

Thank you for visiting Walter's World.
