Elvis is taking this self-isolation seriously

When Elvis first arrived and took over one of Paquito's cuchas I noticed he was not a morning cat. It was odd because the other cats are. He would stay in his cucha until I would go wake him so he could eat breakfast and then would go back to sleep. That worked well because I did not want him around my boys and Katie.

Monday I could not find him anywhere and I then heard a faint meow coming from one of the garbage cans that I used to use for my rain catchment but that had developed a leak and I now use to store my weedeater and other garden tools.

I went to look inside but the garbage can is black and he is equally dark add to that...that I am half-blind...and he was hard to make out. Can you spot him?

It wasn't until he looked up and meowed again that I spotted his eyes and tongue.

We had strong thunderstorms Sunday night and he probably got scared or did not want to get wet.  This trash container is undercover so he found himself a waterproof and camouflage cucha.

Yesterday he barely came out and I was getting worried.  I was washing dishes when I saw him jump on top of the old washing machine where I feed him but put away as soon as he is done as I do not want anymore encounters with possums or raccoons!  Would you believe he ate and went back to sleep?

This afternoon he would not come out.  I put his disposable bowl next to him but he barely ate. I thought is he going to die?  I hope not because I have a bad back and can not possibly dig a hole to bury him!  I kept on pestering him and he finally came out of his new hiding place to eat.  I took that opportunity to take out all my tools and then put the pillow and bedding from his old cucha so he will be more comfortable as we are expecting rains this evening and a cold front tomorrow.

This is how he looked this afternoon

Elvis is in the house!

I finally got tired of calling him "that black cat" but it took me a while to come up with a name. Briefly considered naming him "Kawhi" but this poor cat is not a "traitor" and it would have been an insult to name him that.  You would have to be a San Antonio Spurs fan to understand what I am trying to say.

So, I thought and thought and came up with Elvis as in Elvis Pressley a very handsome man, singer, movie star and proud veteran!  I asked him if he approved and he meowed...Yes!  So Elvis is in the house!

"That Black Cat"...

It seems like "that black cat" has been around forever.  Some days I tolerate him others not so much.  I thought we had an agreement as much as one can have an agreement with an animal.  The deal is he could stay by the kitchen porch and the backyard and my boys and Katie would have the front yard and the run of the rest of the property.

The boys and Katie do not like him.  While Paquito is not afraid of him he looks at him like "what are you doing in MY house?"...Nico and Katie run away from him whenever he tries to approach them. I think he wants to be friends but the boys are not having any of it.  In a way, I am glad as I have no idea what kind of disease he might have.

I now feed him on top of the old washing machine.
I either bring the boys in or feed them in front of
the house.

I am not a veterinarian but I think he has terrible allergies, he scratches himself raw. In the beginning, I thought it was the result of catfights but he has not left the property and my cats are not the type to engage in fights.

You can almost see the bone on his legs due
to the scratching.

Before the cold front hit back on February 25th I made two new cuchas for Paquito and Nico and placed it on the side porch.  However, Nico did not like it and Katie decided to claim it as hers.

The old Clorox bottle (now filled with water) is
to keep the cucha from blowing away.

Katie decided she liked Nico's cucha
and claimed it as her own.

What was my surprise that a couple of days later this is what I would find...

Yeap, "that black cat" took over the cuchas.
