"That Black Cat"...

It seems like "that black cat" has been around forever.  Some days I tolerate him others not so much.  I thought we had an agreement as much as one can have an agreement with an animal.  The deal is he could stay by the kitchen porch and the backyard and my boys and Katie would have the front yard and the run of the rest of the property.

The boys and Katie do not like him.  While Paquito is not afraid of him he looks at him like "what are you doing in MY house?"...Nico and Katie run away from him whenever he tries to approach them. I think he wants to be friends but the boys are not having any of it.  In a way, I am glad as I have no idea what kind of disease he might have.

I now feed him on top of the old washing machine.
I either bring the boys in or feed them in front of
the house.

I am not a veterinarian but I think he has terrible allergies, he scratches himself raw. In the beginning, I thought it was the result of catfights but he has not left the property and my cats are not the type to engage in fights.

You can almost see the bone on his legs due
to the scratching.

Before the cold front hit back on February 25th I made two new cuchas for Paquito and Nico and placed it on the side porch.  However, Nico did not like it and Katie decided to claim it as hers.

The old Clorox bottle (now filled with water) is
to keep the cucha from blowing away.

Katie decided she liked Nico's cucha
and claimed it as her own.

What was my surprise that a couple of days later this is what I would find...

Yeap, "that black cat" took over the cuchas.

Thank you for visiting Walter's World.

  2. Liked the saying but maybe given time your cats might except the stray. He looks like he's had a hard life.

    1. Maybe they will accept him only time will tell. Indeed this poor cat appears to have had a hard life at least now he does not have to worry about finding food, water or a cucha to sleep in.

  3. Is there a reason you haven't captured the Blk Cat and taken him to a vet?

    1. I do not want to capture him. He has lesions and open sores and I would have to put him in one of the boys pet carriers and then disenfect the heck out of it.

Since you are probably new to my blog you might not know that none of these cats are mine...they are strays. Their mother Momma Cat adopted me. I had her fixed as well as her two living cats Paquito and Nico.

Vets are not cheap even when I take them to Mexico as it is half the price of visiting one in Del Rio. I have no plans to take him to one. Feeding him and giving him a safe haven is the most I can do for this poor cat.

  4. Since you go to Mexico you could get some Amoxicilian pills to give the black cat. A friend got me a bottle to treat my barn cats. I put about an inch in a 1cc syringe and mix it with water. I give it to a cat with an abscess twice a day by mouth for a week. Since you can't handle him maybe you could put it in some food.

    1. Hi Martha - first let me apologize because your comment went to my moderation file and it was not until this evening May 9th that I saw it as Blogger failed to send me an e-mail to notify me of its existence.

Right now the border with Mexico is closed to only essential travel I have not been there since January. You are very brave to inject your barn cats I do not think I could do it by mouth not even to Paquito or Nico whom I have raised since kittens.

Though it is an option if he is still around when the border opens back up. Thank you for commenting.
