Why are all my cats born in March?

Blanca gave birth to Paquito, Nico, and Rudy on March 24, 2018.  The only surviving cat is Nicolás who last Thursday turned 4 years old. His mom Blanca is still alive and drops in once in a while but she seems to have found a home. As soon as I got her fixed she left leaving me to raise her kittens.

Nicolás better known as Nico

Nico my little butterball is very chubby and since Paquito's passing, he thinks he is King cat and tries to keep the others in line. He has become aggressive something out of character for him since he was always so shy.

When Nico sleeps he looks like an angel...

Last year during the Texas Freeze in February I found out that both Bonnie Mae and Murderous Molly were pregnant. Molly's pregnancy came as a surprise since I thought she was a boy. Their offspring were born in March 2021.

Bonnie Mae had three kittens...Muñeca, Donald, and Barnabas. Molly had four offspring whom she killed thus giving her the nickname Murderous Molly.

Since then I had Bonnie Mae, Murderous Molly, and Muñeca fixed.

Last year on March 13, 2021, Murderous Molly gave birth to her brood. Two weeks later Bonnie Mae had her kittens on March 27, 2021, so her litter is now officially one year old.

In a prior post, I commented that I discovered that Barnabas was a girl. She of all the cats is leary of me and won't come near me unless I have food and the other cats are around. Why? I have no idea. I have known she was pregnant but she did not look that big. This morning I heard a catfight and ran outside thinking Nico was the culprit but it was Luna (her new name) chasing an orange cat. I was afraid she was attacking Muñeca but it turned out to be another orange cat. That is when I realized that she would not have acted this way unless she was protecting her kittens.

I looked inside the winter cucha I had for the cats that I had wrapped with my old sleeping bag to insulate it against the cold and strong winds. I saw two kittens inside and blood from the afterbirth but they did not look like they were just born. She still has a tummy but I do not see any titties so she can nurse.

So whatever day Luna happened to give birth it once again took place in the month of March.

Thank you for visiting Walter's World.

    1. Cats have a gestation period of 63 to 65 days so that means Luna got pregnant in late January when it was unusually cold this year much like last year when she was born.

    1. Well her two kittens came into the world now that it is warm. This afternoon I was able to see them and they are in fact very small newborns not as big as the picture might make them out to be.

Luna moved them to the water heater closet this afternoon. The only reason I knew was that they were crying...I hope she is able to nurse them. I put a small box in there so she could place them inside.
