Katie took off but left Precious behind

This morning Katie and her kittens were nowhere to be found.  The only one that was here was Precious whom I have no idea if it is a male or female.

Wanted to mention that I now believe Katie had five kittens instead of four.  The first time I saw them there were clearly two light orange cats, one black and one black and gray one.  Afterward, the other little orange one went missing and a dark gray kitten came into the picture.

This morning as I was doing yard work I had to lift up Paquito to bring him back into the yard from the street where he was following me as I was picking up trash along our fence line.  That is when I noticed he had a wound near his right upper leg and was bleeding

No one had attacked him as he followed me so I am wondering if he did, in fact, get into a fight with Katie and ran her off.  I figured she would come back later as I was busy doing yard work and could not go find her.  I do believe they are in the empty lot next to my parent's property.  We will see what tomorrow brings.

Chick Days

With so many mouths to feed decided to buy an off-brand but a larger bag of cat food.

While also being cheaper.

I thought the Chick Season was over but was surprised it wasn't.

Could not help but think of fellow blogger Rob :)

Katie brought her kittens

Early yesterday (Tuesday morning) I went to feed the cats while they were not around Katie was and she had one of her kittens with her that looked like a baby Nico. As soon as it saw me it ran behind the water heater closet and she took off the opposite direction.

Two hours later I went back outside to change out their water (I change it twice a day).  I was not prepared for what I saw.  Katie with FOUR kittens.  One was black who looked like Rudy (the cat that left and never came back) another black and gray like Nico and two very light orange.  One had a strange face and the other one was absolutely precious with a lot of fur that kind of looked like a baby lion and lacked a tail like his momma.

Once again all four kittens took off behind the water heater and Katie the opposite way.  What was more surprising was that the boys did not seem bothered by them. This is surprising because Paquito is very territorial and Sonny claims the space behind the water heater as his.

Even the father of the kittens a dark gray cat that Paquito does not like was hanging around surveying the action as he laid on the cinder block fence a respectable distance away.

I do not know what I am going to do with four new mouths to feed plus Katie and Papa Cat.

A nice morning with Blanca, Katie and the boys

Went outside to feed the boys a little after 7:30 a.m. was surprised that it was 75 degrees with a nice breeze that made it feel even cooler.  While I did not see them they saw me and came running from in back of the garage and beat me to their feeding table (the old washing machine).

It was so nice outside I pulled up a chair and watched them eat. It did not take long for Blanca to make an appearance.  For some reason, Sonny does not like her and tries to run her off (perhaps getting even for her running him off when he was a kitten).

Then the other two joined Sonny while Blanca kept on hissing at them.  Nothing was going to keep her from eating her breakfast.

It was funny because despite the hissing after she finished eating she decided to keep her distance but join them as they relaxed.

Noticed that she no longer had her flea collar.  It did not take long for Katie to come by as well.  I have not seen her in a long time since I keep the blinds closed in the kitchen now. If you recall she had her kittens on May 15th so they are 8 to 9 weeks old but I have never seen them.

I tried to take her picture but she ran off so I backed off so she could eat and then return to her kittens.  I did not like that Sonny (who is not neutered) kept on following her and smelling her behind. Since neither one of them likes to be touched I do not see how I am going to capture them to take to the vet.

Coahuila in the forefront of animal rights

If you are new to this blog or my main one...Terlingua Dreams...I do not buy the local newspaper as neither do most other locals due to a variety of reasons that serve no purpose to be rehashed on a "pet blog".

Yesterday, when I was out and about it was very hot so decided to cool off by heading to our local library where it is downright FRIGID, but yesterday felt HEAVENLY!

To kill time as I enjoyed the very nice A/C...I decided to read the award-winning El Zocalo the daily newspaper from Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico and also the local Del Rio News-Herald.  Truly there is no comparison and I am surprised our local newspaper is still in business.

I have always been an advocate of animal rights.  That was the main reason why I started this blog when I saw the neglect and abuse Walter suffered at the hands of his worthless owner and decided to document the abuse and my interaction with local law enforcement authorities that for the exception of one caring officer went nowhere.

A campaign to dispell the myths against
getting your pets fixed.

Del Rio has done absolutely NOTHING to curb the stray animal overpopulation in particular in Val Verde County.  One would think that our own country would not be upstaged by another, in particular, Mexico who has its own set of problem least of all stray animals.

A free clinic so citizens can sterilize
their pets

The State of Coahuila, as well as the City of Ciudad Acuña, run full-page ads on El Zocalo promoting spay/neutering that includes free sterilization as well as campaigns to donate pet food to feed homeless animals.  Wish the City of Del Rio would do the same.

A campaign to get people to donate

Meet the new pony and his Mom

This morning while it was still relatively cool (76 degrees) and that I could somewhat make my way to the corral after Pollito cut down some of the weeds (he has not come back to finish the job) decided to head that way and meet the little pony.

The pony looks taller than he is because the corral is not leveled and their owner has not removed the poo that was there from years ago. There were LOTS of flies I think for the same reason.

He is so cute and once again I am trying to post a video of him and his Mom, hopefully, my readers will be able to see it.

I could not get close enough to see if there was actual water in their water trough as their owner is not known for keeping it filled at least NOT when Walter, the namesake of this blog lived here.

The boys are showering me with gifts...

The cats have been camping out by the kitchen door that leads to the backyard since they were old enough to do so. That door does not have a window so I can not look outside to see who is there. To complicate things it opens from the inside out.  I was always afraid to accidentally hit one of them.

I  considered that the main reason I disliked using that door was that Paquito always managed to rush in and then want to remain in the house by hiding from me.

Now that the boys have honed in their hunting skills they started to bring me "gifts".  The worst one was the snake a couple of months ago.  I, therefore, decided not to go out that door anymore.

These cats are so smart they have noticed I either use the side door or the main door and they wait for me to go outside. They noticed I use the front door more and it has now become the main place to bring me said "presents". Yesterday it was a crow and this morning a rat.

I got up early to open the gate and there it was before me and Paquito just beaming with pride.  I had put up all my garden tools away and did not want to pull out my shovel so covered the rat with powder soap. A bunch of ants that were not visible emerged and took off.

This afternoon Paquito started playing with the carcass and exposing it again.  What am I going to do with these cats?

Finally made my way to Tractor & Supply

Yesterday I finally made my way to Tractor & Supply to stock up on cat food. While I still have cat food I did not want to pass up on an additional 15% savings with my coupons.

While there decided to take advantage of 10% off everything and bought some horse pine pellets.

New coupon

I had every intention of going to Tractor & Supply to use my 10% off coupon plus 5% additional savings on cat or dog food...but somehow never got around to it :-(

I was therefore pleasantly surprised to find a new coupon in my email today with the same offer.  I have been considering purchasing a top as well as a front loading pet carrier but they are pricey. While I do not have a problem getting Paquito or Nico in the one I currently own...it is a different story when it comes to Sonny.

Sonny and Nico

While Sonny is not one of Blanca's kittens. he came to mom's house on his own, he does not like to be touched...much like Tammie (my former little stray dog).  I do want to get him fixed like my other boys.

It was hot and humid today high of 96 low of 74 with a heat index of 103 degrees. It is no wonder all they did was sleep.
